Security Alert - CryptoLocker Notification

ACP technologies chief mission is to help protect your data. Many of you that have heard of CryptoLocker Ransomware, may not be aware that there is another variance out there creating a new opportunity to infect your network. As a recap, the infection comes typically from emails with what looks like a PDF file attachment. If this is executed the program can live on your network for months before activating, thus making any type of trace back difficult at best. Once the software activates it then encrypts all your files and requests ransom in order to get your data back.

How do I prevent this from happening to me?

Prevention always starts with an educated end-user. If you were not expecting an email or you don’t know who it is coming from it is best refrain from opening any email attachments. Allowing personal email accounts on your business network also puts you at risk as these consumers based accounts do not provide the level of protection needed.

We are all human and make mistakes, but thanks to security systems that constantly monitor and update you are given the chance to defeat these threats. Next Generation Firewalls with Unified Threat Management and Active Threat Protection have proven effective in combating the initial infection and hunting any infections that might come from another source.

Backups, Backups, Backups!

Having a proper backup in the event of a security breach is the best way to get back your data. Why reward the bad guys for stealing your data?

Are you safe?
